Rumor Sparks Excitement: Iconic 'Star Wars' Character May Appear in 'Ahsoka' Season 2

Despite Lucasfilm’s challenges in reviving Star Wars feature films, the television front has continued to thrive. Over the past six years, the Disney+ streaming platform has steadily delivered multiple seasons of various animated and live-action series — 2024 brought us both The Acolyte and Skeleton Crew, while 2023 offered a third season of The Mandalorian and the debut season of Ahsoka. With a second season of the latter series in development, fresh speculation about potential appearances has started to circulate.

A recent report from Star Wars News Net, credited to Kristian Harloff, hints that an iconic Jedi may feature in the second season of Ahsoka. Rumors suggest Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi will appear in flashbacks set during the timeline of The Clone Wars animated series. Ariana Greenblatt is also expected to return as a younger Ahsoka Tano, sharing scenes with McGregor in these flashback sequences. Notably, the first season saw Hayden Christensen reprise his role as young Anakin Skywalker in similar flashbacks, adding credibility to these new speculations.

McGregor last portrayed Obi-Wan Kenobi in the limited series of the same name, which explored a brief chapter in the character’s life between the events of Star Wars Episodes III and IV. Fans have yearned to see a live-action depiction of Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi during their time in the Clone Wars, armor and all. However, even the Kenobi series only included a flashback of events predating Star Wars Episode II.

Obi-Wan Kenobi: Ewan McGregor’s Jedi Master Could Return in Future ‘Star Wars’ Tales

With reports suggesting that the second season of Ahsoka would mark the conclusion of the series, this could be the final opportunity for McGregor to reprise the role of Obi-Wan Kenobi in a live-action capacity. In a September 2024 interview with Variety, the actor shared, “I truly hope we get a chance to do another one. Between where we concluded the series and when Alec Guinness appears on screen with Luke Skywalker, I believe there are still a few stories to explore in that gap.”

While the actor is approaching the age of the character’s portrayal in A New Hope, potential flashbacks in Ahsoka could showcase a younger Kenobi, giving McGregor the opportunity to revisit the version of the character that earned acclaim in the prequel trilogy. Regarding appearances later in the Star Wars timeline, it remains uncertain where McGregor might fit into Lucasfilm projects currently in development.

Between the second season of Ahsoka and the upcoming The Mandalorian and Grogu movie, Dave Filoni is swamped. Whatever narrative the second season has to convey, hopefully, there will be a chance for Filoni to incorporate Obi-Wan Kenobi in an organic way. Moreover, while the Ahsoka series may conclude with the second season, there is always the possibility that characters like Obi-Wan and Ahsoka could appear in other interconnected series and films.
